Dhamma Brothers and Oprah

Letters from the Dhamma Brothers was featured on Oprah's Soul Series. She interviewed two inmates of an Alabama prison where they learned and practice Vipassana meditation, and the author, Jenny Phillips. To hear or watch the program, click this link. Read about the book.

What's New

• This month public television stations in the U.S. will be airing the documentary film The Dhamma Brothers, which tells the story of Vipassana meditation at a maximum-security prison in Alabama. We now have the film on DVD in stock; you can buy it alone or with the companion book Letters from the Dhamma Brothers and save.

• The book The Vision of Dhamma has just been reprinted. In this collection of Wheel titles, the bhikkhu-scholar Nyanaponika Thera explains some of the core issues in the teachings of the Buddha in lucid and accessible language.

• Books from the Buddhist Publication Society have arrived, including several new books and earlier works that have been out of stock, including The Manual of Light and Manual of the Path to Higher Knowledge, a new edition of Modern Buddhist Masters, Anguttara Nikaya Anthology, and Guide through the Abhidhamma Pitaka.

Along the Path is an extensive, well-researched, practical resource for travelers making their first or repeat journey to pilgrimage sites in India and Nepal.

An Ancient Path is a collection of six public talks given by Paul R. Fleischman, M.D. mainly to medical professionals and academics.

The Art of Living Audio Book is now available as an MP3 download. It features author William Hart, with S.N. Goenka telling stories from his ten-day course in Vipassana meditation.

More than a bookstore

Pariyatti is a nonprofit educational organization that seeks out, publishes and makes available materials to inspire, educate and illuminate the seeker's path. We're a comprehensive resource for the teachings of the Buddha as preserved in the Theravada tradition and a primary source for print and digital information about Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka, in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin.

We're more than a bookstore, however. Check out Resources & Projects, or click on an icon to learn more. We are sustained in these endeavors by the generosity of donors.

Pariyatti means . . .

In Pāli, the language of ancient Northern India, pariyatti refers to study of the theoretical aspects of the Dhamma. Pariyatti, Paṭipatti (practice) and Paṭivedha (direct realization) comprise the essence of the Buddha's teaching.

Donors Fund Publications

Keeping Dhamma books in print is a significant part of Pariyatti's mission. In 2009 we were able to reprint Meditation Now and Karma and Chaos. This year we will need to reprint The Path of Purification, at a cost of approximately $13,000. Donations can be given specifically for this printing. You can help keep great books in print.
